This will help prevent rusting-out due to dirt, wet leaves, etc.It's astounding that people are posting negative reviews elsewhere of other similar products, because of the smell! These are heavy-duty rubber pads, so .... they stink of rubber! If you are planning to use them inside, simply leave them outside for a few days, to air them and help dissipate the smell.
