For years, we have bought those cheap Mr. Coffee coffee makers. Several times, they have come close to setting our house on fire. We learned to NEVER trust them unmonitored. We tried the giant aluminum coffee urns, and while the lasted longer, they too suffered shorted cords and became fire hazards, not to mention made coffee with a metallic taste. We also tried the stainless steel percolators, and they didn't last long either. Needless to say, I was pretty jaded about coffee makers in general. Recently, we ordered the Bunn BX-B Coffee Brewer from Amazon. I live and breathe coffee. If you cut me, I bleed coffee. We go through several pots a day. I wanted something that works well, and is stoutly built. All my life, I have seen Bunn makers in restaurants and figured there had to be a good reason why so many are found in commercial settings. This Bunn Coffee Brewer has lived up to the Bunn reputation, and has finally made me a happy camper. While its speed at brewing a pot (3 minutes) was a big plus, it was not a big factor in my purchase decision. It is as fast as they claim, and that's great! What was most important to me, is that it brew good coffee, and not set my house on fire. This brewer does make great coffee, and from the way it is built, I don't worry about fires. I had read in other reviews that Bunn's customer service was very helpful and friendly, and that also influenced my purchase. I also read in other reviews that the carafe's tend to be easy to break if bumped, so I ordered a spare carafe just in case. Amazon had that for $14.99, so that was a good price. This maker does not have all the fancy computer nonsense in it, such as timers, etc., but I could care less about that stuff. All in all, I am very happy with my Bunn brewer, and would gladly buy another one if needed. It was well worth the money. Our old Mr. Coffee maker will go to the landfill where it belongs. Bunn is an American company, and makes an excellent product!UPDATE July 21, 2014: I purchased my Bunn BX-B on July 26th, 2011. It carried a three-year warranty. Just six days before the warranty expired, my beloved coffee maker died a sad and horrible death! (the switches went dead). I just now called Bunn, and spoke to a lovely young lady. I gave her my model number, date code, and when I purchased it from Amazon. She asked for my name and address, and said that they would be sending me a brand new coffee maker with a new 3-year warranty within 7 days. No arguments, no hoops to jump through, just great honest customer service! She did ask that I return the old unit to them after the new one arrives, but I could keep the old carafe and filter basket as spares. Ladies and gentlemen, that is how customer service should be done, and I take my hat off to the good folks at Bunn!Side-note: A year after I bought this coffee maker for myself, I bought one for my son's newly completed house as well. He's had excellent luck with his coffee maker. Also, in my initial review, I'd mentioned reading that the glass carafe's were easy to break, so I bought a spare one when I bought my coffee maker. Three years later, we were still on the carafe that came with our Bunn, and that spare one I bought is still in the box it came in from Amazon. So, they don't seem as fragile as what I was led to believe, but I am reassured that we always have a spare, just in case.
