I love waffles. Classic ones. We eat them every Saturday using my grandpa's recipe. But now that I have 4 kids, normal waffle irons have a hard time keeping up, and it's harder and harder to find classic waffle makers since everyone seems to be preferring Belgian. I had my eye on the Wells commercial waffle maker because I've had those at restaurants and I know they're good, but 1000 dollars for a waffle iron seems like too much. So I tried this one.It's huge, but that was a known. It can get REALLY hot, but at least with the recipe I was using I couldn't take advantage of that because it would burn the outsides before the insides cooked.My main complaint about this Waffle maker is that the waffles are too hardy if that makes sense. Rather than a delicate waffle you get a lego brick. I think they could fix this by putting an 8x8 grid in the same space they currently do a 7x7 per waffle, and take that space from the raised walls between the... syrup holes(?). Good classic waffle makers have ridges that are more like / \__/ \__/ \ while this waffle iron was more like |___| |___| | (top lines implied because amazon doesn't seem to support the overline character) This is super picky, but I also like 8x8 better because I tend to eat waffles in 2x2 bites.I wish I had a good recommendation for people on the same hunt I am, but so far I'm still looking. The best one I have is the silver black and decker waffle maker with removable plates that can also be a griddle. I would just buy another of those to keep up with Saturday demand, but sadly their quality seems to have gone downhill in recent years as only my unit from 10 years is any good. I've bought two more since then and the craftsmanship was so shotty as to be unusable.It was Avery attractive but too large for home useNice heavy-duty appliance, cooks waffles quickly, but does NOT make Belgian waffles.Fair pricing.
